Minecraft 1.2.4 ... hip hip !

Minecraft 1.2.4 is out. | Bukkit Forums
[IMG] Mojang have just released an update to Minecraft, bringing us to 1.2.4. This update is primarily a bug fix release but does include some nice...

Yay, should I be happy or sad now. Happy for yet another new update, thus supposedly being better, less bugs, new fun stuff. Sad, because this means yet again outdated servers, hard work on fixing it all, hoping all mods and plugins update as well and whatever else ...

See, now thats why I am waiting and getting pretty tired of this going on all the time. Why not just a stable release and wait a while for another next stable release instead of screwing it all up again. Every month there seems to be a new release with all the frustrations in mod-land. Bukkit is trying to fix the job and I sure hope they will soon. They are not even the only ones out there providing us with modded extra content that adds to the game and over all experience. Even Bukkit can't seem to keep up and they are working for Mojang now. The thread on the forum clearly shows the frustration and even though Minecraft in itself is a great game in my opinion and works well just as it is, it does have to thank its popularity to all those others working on added content as well. I lost interest in playing a great game, just because I like to do just that bit extra and if things keep going like this I will most likely lose interest completely and just give up on it.
This is bullshit.

First, Bukkit ignore all the 13 messages I tweeted to them, asking when a Bukkit RB for 1.2.3 will be released. This is appalling, as they claim to be helpful and easy to speak to, their IRC is dead too.

Second, servers are losing donations and players all over the world including mine, just because the Bukkit devs will not get off their lazy ass and put in some hard-core work for the Bukkit Project. No, I am not a hopeless noob who doesn't understand how much work coding CraftBukkit is, I fully understand that an RB could have been produced a few weeks ago and the devs are just dawdling.

So really, Bukkit, get your act together as you have joined Mojang now, and with the release of this 1.2.4 (which is not even 100% necessary) there was not even a RB for 1.2.3 and there probably will never be.

I hope people realize what I am saying, and that I do have a point.

Thanks,
James Allison
This is not just a money thing where servers lose donations and players. This is not just Bukkit screwing up. This has been going on for a long time already and I sure feel like its been a missed opportunity so far. Many are feeling this way and tired of having to keep up all the time. I used to be running my own free server, was ready to start a Bukkit server. I never needed donations because I never paid to have it hosted for me. I am not one of those bigger servers that sells shops or rare items to players to compensate for the effort or cost involved. For me it's all about fun and having a good time trying to get the best out of the game. Mojang should have taken control in its own hands way sooner to work on or assign a team for Server API development and plugin/mod compatibility. All got out of hand because they never really bothered until recently when they finally hired some Bukkit developers to step in.
Still, a great game, but I will stick to single player for now and not be bothered with a new update. My Minecraft 1.1 with 27 mods runs fine. I am not even going to update till the storm is over. I lost the fun somewhat, had been waiting and hoping for ages for a mod like The Aether to finally come with an update. Yes, I joined late and never had a chance to play the 1.7 version which looked great, because I started playing since 1.8. The last release of The Aether was buggy and as I recall a new Minecraft update was available a week later. But you know what, I am not trying to hurry them, I still love the game. Just bad tactics, a lot of work involved and a struggle going on to work together in mod-land. I have time Mojang and all those other developers who try so hard to make the best of it. Once I find all my mods compatible again I will update and I am sure not even going to try set up a server again till the dust has cleared ;-)

PS: LOL @ Minecraft 1.2.4 has bumped the protocol version
