Fun Paradise V has officially launched!

Fun Paradise V is actually my 6th Minecraft server I am running if I include the very first 'Waterworld'. The official launch was on Monday, November 17th 2014. This time it runs my own custom modpack for Minecraft 1.7.10 with a lot of Magic, Exploration and only a few fun Tech mods. This time PvP outside of the Spawn dimension is allowed, which is a first time we actually have PvP enabled on the server. The modpack is stable enough to play with, although plenty of bugs still need to be fixed by mod developers. Updates will be scheduled every two weeks for now.

More info can be found on the forum.

Planning to stream again this weekend

The modpack for Fun Paradise IV is great fun to play. I am really enjoying it and it turned out better than I might have expected. It's pretty hard to survive when starting out, but not annoyingly hard where you continuously die or have to eat like every few minutes. If you start out prepared and be smart about how you deal with the level of mobs and lack of food at start, you will do just fine. After that its hard but not too grindy to start on tech and progress. Still have not really touched some of the other mods so I hope those do not turn out to be too OP or not fit the pack after all. Some mods do seem to have caused some issues, but they seem solved for now. This is just a test pack as well to prepare for 1.7.2, although it starts to turn out more serious than I might have wanted. Making a modpack and running a server properly is quite some work. Fixing problems, keeping up-to-date and getting configs just right is not just it. Staying in touch with the players and keeping them posted as well as keeping track on the forum/website takes quite some work too. Then of course the hole 'permission to distribute the modpack' thing ... Well, ... only one mod left to get permission from, Railcraft. I asked him on #railcraft IRC and am waiting on a reply.
Hopefully I feel ok enough to stream again this weekend. I always post to Twitter and Facebook, so keep an eye out. I really want to continue building on the Space Station and go to the Moon for some needed resources to progress in Galacticraft. Yoomanyoo and I tech-ed really fast, but we rely on lava to keep our machines running. Biggest problem is the lack of Ender Pearls to keep chunks loaded and transport our lava with carts from the Nether to our base. Maybe another visit to the End? Not sure, we kept dying and were lucky to even get some resources from there. A jetpack was needed to prevent dying to the Ender Dragon and fly off to a 'safe' place for some mining. We are also short on Iridium, so a Mass Fab is prolly best choice to spend the few iridium we have on. More power is needed though and we don't feel like expanding our 'Earth' base for maybe some Nuclear Power. We want to set base in Space and moving everything becomes harder the more we build on Earth. I am excited though and hope to be able to play with Yoo this weekend. He has been pretty busy with 'real life' during weekdays. I purposely waited on doing certain things, to not let him miss out.

Pix' in Space ... Come check me out when I go LIVE again ...

Hunger Overhaul is back again!

Re-added Hunger Overhaul again after tweaking the server! Should function properly again without noticeable lag, although its probably still more CPU intensive compared to other mods due to most likely the way its coded. I am happy to have it back though, love it!

Hunger Overhaul removed

Had to remove Hunger Overhaul from the modpack. It was causing massive CPU load. Read more about it on the forum: <forum> I am sad :(

Fun GregTech Modpack

Got a nice small modpack together to test with till all mods are ready for 1.7.2 to start a new server with. After a few minor changes all seems to work pretty well, although I am curious what will happen with IC2 with yet again Enet problems breaking things. Also not sure about future compatability between GregTech and Buildcraft. The way it seems to be going now, GregTech might as well become a standalone mod without relying on IC2. Would also love to get rid of MFR, because I want to keep this modpack really hard, but as OP as this mod is, it does have a RedNet system that is by far as buggy as Project Red or Red Logic. So we are not using any of the MFR stuff apart from RedNet. Will see what happens and what changes need to be made once 1.7.2 is ready for all mods in this pack. Will see what happens ...
I am truly enjoying this pack for a while already and yes, its very damn hard! No Ender chests or any ways to teleport items or liquids. No portals either apart from the Vanilla Nether portals, which do kinda work with Railcraft though. GregTech changed a lot and still is adding more and more resources as well as functionality. I have a feeling he is preparing for IC2 and Buildcraft to disappear? For those who last played GregTech in 1.4.7-1.5.2, you will be in for a treat ;-) Love the pipes and covers and they are truly advanced and allow for very compact setups. Logi-pipes are of course great as well, but are of course based on Buildcraft. I do however prefer them over the in my opinion way too OP Applied Energistics networks that I hate using and seem like magic and unreal to me. I bet in a month or two I will be able to do some first tests for 1.7.2 with this pack. Might add/remove a few mods and make some modifications, but I like this small pack as it is.
Will run this modpack on the server as soon as 1.7.2 is stable and ready. This pack will however not run 7 days a week, because the server is meant for projects to work/build on. So sometimes I might have to backup the world and install a project instead causing some downtime for the multiplayer server. If you would like to join the server in the near future, let me know.

Modpack 1.6.4:

  • Blood Magic
  • Buildcraft
  • CodeChickenCore
  • Forestry
  • Forge
  • GregTech
  • IC2FixesGT
  • IC2
  • Jabba
  • LogisticsPipes
  • MineFactoryReloaded
  • NEI
  • NEI Plugins
  • OpenComputers
  • OpenComponents
  • PowerCrystalsCore
  • Railcraft
  • Universal Electricity Core (needed for OpenComputers)

Project Pixy: Looking for applicants!

Project Pixy, the new and upcoming Minecraft server will be all about projects as the name implies. Here we will only work on building/creating games, adventure maps or special builds in creative mode. We could be working on different projects with their own set of mods and plugins or even vanilla. This means there will be different client/server setups used depending on the project we're working on. This way we keep mods/plugins as limited as possible to allow for easy install once a project is finished and uploaded for the public.

The server will be white-listed only with very limited access!

For those interested to join, make sure to fill out your application on the forum.

Castle Wars

Lately I have been taking a break from streaming partly to be able to work on the game mechanics for one of our games on Fun Paradise III. It took me quite some time to get it all to work and mostly to code the computers that control everything. Had many a brain ache to solve unsuspected issues and find ways around those. However, Castle Wars is now reaching completion and we will soon be able to play for real!
Castle Wars, is a game Yoomanyoo and I have been developing. It's a game where 2 teams build their fortress with traps and then fight each other in three rounds. Players get to choose their building/fighting skills. This has been built on my modded server Fun Paradise III and therefor allows for some neat features and compact game mechanics.

Castle Wars (team game for max 10 players)
The main lobby to sign up for the game
Choose your team
The Blue team to select building/fighting skill
The Green team to select building/fighting skill
The playfield (not cleared)
The brain of the game
Some of the wires needed to connect things to the computers
More wires
The two teams shown from below

LUA program for ComputerCraft to send server messages

Today I updated a quick program I made to be able to send server messages to the Minecraft server. It uses an Advanced Computer and a Command Block. Of course you need to enable Command Blocks in the server.properties file and in the config file for ComputerCraft. The program actually consists of two programs. One is the 'startup' program to actually send the server messages and the other is the 'Broadcast' program. This last program will ask you on which side of the computer you place the command block, how many messages you want it to send, what the messages are and at what time interval you want the messages to be sent. Those variables are then stored in a file called 'Variables' and it will run the 'startup' program. The 'startup' program will check if the 'Variables' file is available and if so it will run using those variables. If the 'Variables' file is not available it will run the 'Broadcast' file to ask for the variables needed and then store them to run 'startup' again. The file actually sending the messages is of course called 'startup' so it will continue to run even after a server restart. To stop it from running and change the variables, just hold <ctrl> + T for a few seconds to terminate and then run 'Broadcast'.

Here are the pastebin links for both files needed:
'startup': http://pastebin.com/vsA51u6Q
'Broadcast': http://pastebin.com/Fgh82w5y

Click below (read more) to read the full code for both files.

Fun Paradise III - Notice

The server problems seem to be fixed for now, just not sure what will happen once we try using solar panels again. Since I do not have access to the TCAdmin Web Console at the moment, there is no way to control the server. I can only get access to the file system for FTP backups. Until problems with the control panel are solved we just have to keep our fingers crossed the server does not start crashing again.

Fun Paradise III - NOTICE !

The Minecraft server might be down for a while considering I have been awake for way too long and desperately need some sleep, while the server crashes on IC2 > Bad timing ... *sigh*, but I will try to fix it as soon as possible. Currently uploading a backup while looking into the problem. Please be patient and my apologies for the down-time and disappointment for not being able to play for now. Truly hope to have it back up soon.

Report bugs/errors with any of the mods in this pack by replying to this post.

Fun Paradise III is off to a great start

The new server is really doing well and I am very happy about how the server is holding on and all the people joining. At the moment we have 22 players white-listed. We seem to be getting at least one player each day to join us now. Big thanks to those who joined recently and of course thanks to Rockstar hosting. I am definitely enjoying it so far and glad we decided to open up the server even though Bukkit is still not fully set up. With this group and the server running great, it's prolly the best server experience I have had so far. We only just started, so hopefully it will only get better :)

Woot!
